"Eliminate what doesn't help you evolve." ~Unknown
Are you superstitious? I am. Not in a ‘step-on-a-crack-break-your-mother’s-back’ sort of way. It shows up as a subtle nod to ‘touch-the-penny-in-your-pocket-for-good-luck.’
One of my beliefs is that holding onto physical things associated with unhealthy relationships or low points in your life puts unstable energy in your psyche.
That weird juju will follow you. Even a farmer would choose to spread manure over standing next to that special brand of stink. If you marinate in it for too long, the foulness of it will also precede you.
And it takes up emotional space that can otherwise be used to propel you to a better place.
No amount of shuffling and reorganizing the old cruft will give way to the transformation we seek; all that baggage keeps us weighed down by the past.
Allowing new opportunities and higher-quality people into our lives relies upon a willingness to open ourselves up to those possibilities.
Purging is a part of the necessary process of forgiving, healing, and moving on. Its reward is present-moment awareness. And, ultimately, peace.
Letting go starts with small, focused, and meaningful steps: pull it out, drag it out, throw it away, give it away, sell it, burn it, sage it, and scream into the emotional void.
Make it a ritual if you must. This is what your catharsis feels like. Freedom is yours.
You did the hard work of making room for what comes next.
