Radical: SHINE
"Courage doesn't mean we're not afraid anymore; it just means our actions aren't controlled by our doubts." ~Bob Goff
Do you find yourself trembling in your boots when it comes time to put your gifts and talent out into the world?
You’re not alone! We all want to be liked, appreciated, and accepted.
I’ve had a few chats recently with some savvy creatives who are poised to reach for their big dreams. And I’m picking up on a common theme that’s dampening their spark. It starts with ‘what if…’ and ends with a series of fears and self-doubts.
You should know: these feelings are 100% normal as you begin to acknowledge the possibilities, make positive changes in your life, and embrace the new version of yourself.
Stepping into the spotlight and being seen is intimidating at best and panic-inducing at worst. It demands vulnerability and trust that you’ll deliver the best of your gifts under (what seems like) the world's scrutiny.
Meet your new best friend - Discomfort.
It’s undeniable; visibility opens you to criticism. To success. To failure. To the unknown. It challenges you to know your worth. It shows the world who you’re for. And, importantly, who you’re not for.
Visibility asks you to lead. To start conversations. To rattle some cages. To do what you do best using your values and your voice.
Letting fear and self-doubt take the reigns assigns you to a life of stagnation and anonymity. Don’t allow yourself to marinate in this immobilization stew.
Begin by acknowledging your ‘what if...’ questions AND answering them. Once you do, then ask yourself the opposite question. When you do this, you create a playbook for your Mt. Everest of Dread.
What if...
I fail? I succeed?
People don’t like what I create/share? People are clamoring for more, and I can barely keep up with the demand?
I receive criticism? I earn praise and financial reward?
My inherent worth is tied to what others think of me? Intrinsic value comes from knowing who I am and what I have to offer is needed in the world?
Holding back provides an illusion of safety? Sharing all of me opens new doors and possibilities?
By meeting your worries head-on, you find clarity and shed beliefs that don’t serve your highest good. You’ll realize that you have the necessary skills to climb to the summit.
Imagine how great your view will look from the top. And the feeling when you’re seen, heard, and valued? It’s illuminating.
