"Let yourself be drawn by the strange pull of what you love. It will not lead you astray." ~Rumi
Who were you as a child; before you assigned conditions and character attributes to your selfhood?
My six-year-old version was shy, quiet, and observant. I preferred the company of adults, especially elders; I liked to watch their interactions closely and listen to what was being said. I would hang on the space between words, absorbing and storing their implied meaning in my communication vault for later retrieval. I was good at reading body language. That trait translated into a deep empathic sensibility as an adult.
When laid bare, the structural bones of your emotional terrain were built by your inner child.
What would that child think of you today? Would they recognize you as the older version of themselves? How closely do you align with the essence of your inner being? When you take time to honor stillness and really listen, you can tap into that younger version of yourself.
By observing what intuitively lights you up and giving that wisdom room to expand, you celebrate your human potential.
If you were born to dance, move your body. If you love to make music, let your voice be heard. If art is calling you, make your mark. Allow yourself to be seen and heard. Your body is merely a vessel for your soul. Honor your inner child’s gifts, and you will be set free.
Insight to Action: Think back to your six-year-old self... What was your greatest gift? The one that you sensed as “baked” into your DNA. Write it down. Look at it. How can you move closer to putting this version of yourself out into the world? Take one small step towards sharing it.
