Spell It Out
"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself." ~George Bernard Shaw
I’m on a mission to simplify. Everything.
This is a work-in-progress rendition of how I want my life to be. It follows a natural, easy rhythm - no thoughtless rushing from one task or place to the next. The people, spaces, and objects I’m surrounded by are delightfully colorful and free-spirited. There is ample time to be curious, soak up knowledge, cultivate relationships, and strive to be a better version of myself. I lead a joyfully bohemian, charismatic life that leaves room for serendipity to work its magic. I have a deep respect for and connection with nature. I immerse myself in this chaotic world and lead with love, compassion, and an open heart.
The spirit of creativity is the lifeblood that pulses through everything and animates this state of being whole.
Confession time: I spent too many years worrying about what my life looked like from the outside. >>>Cringe<<< I would obsess over what other people thought and said about me. It was a serious roadblock to embracing who I am and living by my definition of success.
I had created a fear-based stew. I was marinating in its juicy, rigid standards of perceived societal norms.
I finally ripped the Band-Aid off when I decided to get rid of the clutter that no longer served my mission in life. It hurt like hell. I was challenged to ask why I put my desires on the “I’ll get to that later” list. That hard examination forced me to rethink, prioritize, and focus on those people and pursuits that have intrinsic value and give me purpose. It also helped me see what I needed to let go of to better align with what fuels me.
The embodiment of this life isn’t coming together in one magical moment. It accrues over time and is informed by following your intuition and being vulnerable enough to try things on for size. Is it the right fit? Does this puzzle piece fit? Often, it’s a “no.” You have to dig for your kernel of truth. It’s uncomfortable and necessary to get where you want to be.
It starts by having the willingness to ask yourself why this matters; why now. Be crystal clear.
A thoughtfully considered rationale will help you separate the wheat from the chaff. The time you take to enumerate why something is important will help you clearly define goals and relationships so that you can confidently pursue them. It will also help you eliminate the unessential people, objects, and tasks in your life.
Be present. Stay aware. Be nimble. Be open. Shift, when necessary. Realign. Embody. Repeat.
It takes guts to build your own blueprint for how you want to live your life. Remember: Nothing is set in stone; you can, and should, refine as you go. You get to set the parameters.
Insight to Action: What’s one thing that’s important and feels true to you right now? Is it present at the top of your list each day? How can you align and design your life around this goal? What can you eliminate or shift to make it your priority?
