I appreciate your inquiry for helping folks break the spell and congruent actions with your values. Our dollars are a form of a vote, spending this currency in alignment with our values sends a powerful message.

I agree 100%. It starts with us being conscious consumers of every resource in our lives. I'm choosing discomfort and breaking from the mainstream in many ways... and it feels empowering!

It is empowering. When we are fed up we can help be the change we seek.

If you don't already know about the certified B Corp community of businesses, check them out for where your dollar aligns with your values.

These leaders aren't perfect and they are committed to caring for all stakeholders, - community, environment, workers, customers, not only shareholders, and holding themselves accountable to 3rd party verified performance standards... as well as a broader definition of fiduciary responsibility with a different legal framework governing their business.

What a great suggestion, Morgan! Thank you. I'm just starting down the road with moving my assets to local banks as well (away from the large conglomerate financial institutions). It's such a process, but I feel like I want my money to be in the local economy with banks that do more for the community where I live. Next up, I'm going to be tackling retirement investments. I want the companies I'm invested in to align with my values, too. It all takes so much research, but it's worth it. I will definitely start looking for the B Corp businesses.

Bravo, where our money sleeps at night matters.

If you need some support or suggestions, I highly recommend Rose and TImothy Yee at Green Retirement Planning, also a founding B Corp.

Consider investing with RSF Social Finance, or Green Alpha Advisors, and if you live in CA, OR, or WA, Beneficial State Bank is exceptional in it’s practices for investing in the local communities, also it’s owned by a Foundation so it’s governance structure is highly ethical.

Great food for thought and insight Tina! Dipping my toes into what works for my situation which includes being more mindful to support local, no posting on fb, etc and don’t even know how instagram or twitter/X works. I have had to “divorce” a couple of friends who require more maintenance to keep than I have in my tank to fuel. This allows me to connect with positive, joyful people while still supporting my treasured friends and immediate family. I want to be present and be a good listener.

I have much room for improvement and learning. Always choose joy!

It’s such a peaceful feeling that washes over you when you take back control of who has access to you! I think we’ve been taught (especially women) not to make a fuss and to just toe the line. The messaging is clear: make nice, be polite, and follow the herd. I just don’t have the stomach for it any longer. I’m over any sort of FOMO. Like you, I’ve had to cull the friendships to include only those that feel reciprocal. We only get this one beautiful life… I want to feel truly connected and joyful, and experience it with people who are brave enough to live it on their terms. Let’s make our own rules!
