Radical: PURSUIT
"Dreams are the touchstones of our character." ~Henry David Thoreau
Idolatry is a smokescreen.
Worshipping perfection distracts us from the real work of putting ourselves out into the world.
I spent many years in an echo chamber as I helped others follow their dreams while neglecting mine—getting a rush of adrenaline every time I participated in dream chasing by proxy.
The body buzz I got from proximity to someone else’s aspirations tricked me into believing I was moving closer to my own.
The reality is, I was merely treading water. With hopes and somedays tied around my waist like a cinderblock.
Dreams are messy propositions. They aren’t meant to be kept on display under a glass case. That barrier keeps us from doing the real, hard work.
By waiting for the perfect moment to set out on our journey, we’re denying ourselves the immersive experience.
We spend a lot of time worrying about the wrong things when we idealize what the pursuit of a dream should look and feel like.
The only way to crush the fear of taking the first step is to try your dream shoes on for size.
You may discover that you’re more of a ‘lace up your hiking boots and climb a mountain’ sort of go-getter than a ‘slip on your flip-flops and mosey to the beach’ laid-back soul.
It’s going to take walking many miles of dream terrain to find the soul of your soles.
It’s better to experience the blisters, toe pinch, and heel rub firsthand so you know your pain points.
This way you can adjust your fit, and route traveled, accordingly.
